Cost of Moving Furniture to France

For some people, (particularly students and those on short term contracts) moving to France is simply a matter of loading a few cases into the car and setting off for their fully furnished flat on the continent. For many others, it’s not that simple.
For those who have more to move that can’t be loaded into their car, there are several options available. The do-it-yourself options seem cheaper at first, but this can be very misleading as the costs can be way more than the expense of hiring a van. Fuel costs need to be taken into account and additional expenses can include tolls and tariffs, insurance, even overnight accommodation.
Then there is the risk of unexpected additional costs. Inexperience in loading furniture for long journeys and a lack of the proper protective equipment can lead to goods getting damaged, (sometimes irreparably) and those goods will need to be replaced.

The cost of moving furniture to France with a removals company can be considerably cheaper, (and a lot less stressful) than the D.I.Y. option, but it’s important to use a company that has a lot of experience.

The removals company will need to know all the relevant rules and regulations to transport goods within France and ideally should be a member of a trade body that enforces a Code of Practice.

Central Moves is a member of the BAR* & AIM* and has a many years’ experience in moving people to Europe, (especially France and Spain).

For full house moves, we can provide a dedicated vehicle, experienced crew and a range of services to suit your needs. This may include a full packing service, partial packing service, (e.g. just the kitchen or fragile items) and even an unpacking service.
We provide insurance, packing materials and specialist protective equipment to ensure your furniture and goods arrive unharmed.
For those with less than a full van load, we can provide a low-cost option to move your furniture to France. Part-loads allow us to offer our customers much lower prices to have their goods moved.

If you are unsure which service best suits your needs, we are happy to take your Call 020 8892 8931and discuss the options.

Moving to Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region in France

In 2017, France remains one of the top choices for UK citizens looking to move abroad.

Southern France is of particular interest, (maybe for the weather, food, scenery and relaxing lifestyle) for Brits looking for a good place to retire.

A popular destination is the region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, which includes the cities of Poitiers, Limoges and Bordeaux.
Poitiers is in the north of Nouvelle-Aquitaine and is very proud of its rich cultural heritage, as a visit to the Salle du Patrimoine clearly shows. The Salle du Patrimoine is the Heritage Room on the 1st floor of the Tourist Office and is a permanent display presenting the cultural history of the city.
Limoges is in the north-east part of Nouvelle-Aquitaine and famous for its fine porcelain and stained glass. The Fine Arts Museum of Limoges is home to some of the most spectacular tapestries, porcelain, stained glass and enamel art in Europe.
Bordeaux is a port city so is known mainly as the hub for the wine growing region. To some, it is better known for its stunning architecture and beautiful public gardens. Being the southernmost of the three cities mentioned, Bordeaux is probably the most desired area for retirees moving to France.
Although Poitiers, Limoges and Bordeaux are great places to live, there are many towns and villages in Nouvelle-Aquitaine that could be ideal for Brits wishing to move to Southern France. The region can boast some wonderful landscapes and a wide range of climates.
For those that would prefer to live on the coast, there are a number of thriving towns to choose from, including the seaside resort of Arcachon or, further down the coast, the picturesque town of Biarritz.

Whichever town or city you choose to move to in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, you can be sure that Central Moves can get your belongings there with the minimum of fuss. European Moves with Central Moves comes with a range of packing services, if you decide you want to try moving to France for a year or two before making a long term commitment, we can provide storage for your furniture and deliver it to you in the future.

Moving to Montpellier France

Are You Thinking of Moving to Montpellier in France ?

Montpellier has long been a favoured destination for Brits moving to France. It has a thriving expat community and great job opportunities in the hospitality sector as well as biotech and agribusiness.

Attracting visitors from all over the world, Montpellier is a tourism hotspot in the South of France, so always needs employees with foreign language skills.
Apart from the good weather, great food and fine wine, Brits move to Montpellier for the friendly atmosphere and subtle blend of medieval streets and modern infrastructure.
Montpellier has some of the most magnificent architecture in France, (both historic and modern) and as expected from a city with such a long and diverse history, there is no shortage of museums.
For families thinking of moving to Montpellier, there is no need to worry about schooling. The French education system is much the same as in the UK, in as much as there are free schools and private schools. In Montpellier, the most popular school for English speakers is International Eridan School.
Montpellier nightlife is as diverse as its people, with something for everyone. From the quiet and relaxing restaurants to theme bars with live music, there is always a place to go that suits your mood. Many of the bars, like The Shakespeare on Rue de la Petite Loge, are favourites of UK expats and offer a chance to meet with other Brits that have relocated to Montpellier.
Restaurants and eateries in Montpellier also offer a wide variety of options to suit any taste or budget.
All in all, moving to Montpellier is a great choice if you are considering living in the South of France. It is a city that has doubled in the last 50 years and continues to grow and benefits from continued investment.

Central Moves can provide a whole range of removals services, from transporting a few boxes, to moving the entire contents of your UK home to your new home in Montpellier. We recommend using our packing service for European moves, as we have the experience and specialist materials to protect your goods for the journey.

A French Home is Still an Option

There has been a lot of speculation about how Brexit will impact Brits that want to live in France.

Much of that speculation has been negative, yet there seems to be very little substance to that negativity.

Although the free movement of EU citizens between the UK and France is likely to end, emigration and immigration between our countries will no doubt continue as it has done for hundreds of years.
The rules are likely to change, but for the British citizen that wants to live on the continent, a French home is still an option, (though there may be more forms to fill in). Moving to Europe is a big decision and takes courage, so once a person has made the decision, they are highly unlikely to be deterred by the prospect of a little more paperwork.
Since we cannot be sure what the new rules will be, it may be beneficial to make the move before Brexit is finalised and the new rules come into play. We have been assured that there will be some concessions for people already living in EU countries, as well as concessions for EU citizens living in the UK.
Whatever happens to the rules, there are some things that won’t change. For example, a Brit living in France will be bound by the laws, rules and regulations of France, so there is some preparation required before the move.
Most people that move to France have a good understanding of their legal obligations, as they have either worked or have close ties there. If that’s not the case, there are plenty of resources available online.
As we all know, there is always conflicting information on the internet, so it’s best to use official sites for important research. Sites like the Embassy of France in London and the Gov.uk pages about France will help to keep us all informed about current rules regarding moving to France.
The regulations regarding importing the contents of a house may see some minor changes. If that’s the case, Central Moves will be informed before the changes come into effect. Experts in relocation to Francealong with being members of the British Association of Removers and Alliance of Independent Movers, we are always kept up-to-date, which means our customers are in safe hands.

Moving to Paris or Ile-de-France

Paris is a well-organised and pleasant city for ex-pats. Central Moves have moved many expats & students to all areas in Paris. Accommodation is reasonably priced and relatively easy to find, public transport is cheap, plentiful and efficient, parking is well organized. As in most large cities, traffic is a major problem, and pollution levels are high, especially in summer. However, thanks to efficient sign-posting it is easy to find your way around. Facilities for cyclists are also excellent, with an extensive system of designated routes all over the city. There is a good choice of American and British schools for those who do not want to take advantage of the internationally recognised French system. However, there is a general lack of support systems for expatriates, and integration into the French system can be hard work unless you already have employment in the city or are a student. Wealth is heavily concentrated in the western suburbs of Paris, notably Neuilly-sur-Seine, one of the wealthiest areas of France with some very big & expensive properties. Many of Paris’ important institutions are located outside the city limits; the financial business district is in La Défense and many of the educational institutions lie in the southern suburbs. Disneyland Paris, one of France’s top tourist destinations, employing many expats is located mostly in the commune of Chessy, 30.6 km (19.0 mi) north-east of the city centre.
If you are Buying or renting property in any area in Paris, Central Moves have the knowledge and experience of the roads, streets and properties in all areas as follows:

Parking for a removal Lorry in Paris.

Most HGV’s over 7.5 tonnes are banned from the French road and motorway network every weekend between the hours of 10 p.m Saturday and 10 p.m Sunday. Paris area: Further restrictions apply for HGV access to the Paris area, (Mondays and the day following a public holiday, from 6 a.m to 10 a.m), and for HGV’s leaving the Paris area (Fridays and days preceding a public holiday, usually from 4 p.m). This means that trucks cannot transit via the Paris inner ring-road (Boulevard Périphérique) during these hours.

If you have parking restrictions outside your french property just let Central moves know and we will handle and advise on what steps to take in obtaining a parking permit. Also if access through to your property is restricted Central moves are able to hire outside elevators for those extra large items of household furniture or if access is restricted for a large removal lorry outside your property we may have to use a tranship vehicle.
PLEASE LET CENTRAL MOVES KNOW OF ANY PARKING ISSUES RELATING TO YOUR PROPERTY IN PARIS.
